I remember very little of this show, except for the following: Rango was undercover among bad guys, in a bar, acting tough. One bad guy growls, "My name's Black."
Rango replies, "Hi, Blackie."
Another tough guy says, "My name's Duke."
Rango replies, "Hi dookie."

As a kid, I thought this was hilarious, and 40 years later it's my only memory of the show.
I remember this show when I was about 10 years old. It was good for a hoot, but got old fast. Tim Conway, like McLean Stevenson, was never meant to be the top banana. Conway worked best as a second- billed player.
Rango was actually a Texas Ranger, not a sheriff's deputy. His Indian sidekick (played by Guy Marks) was named Pink Cloud. It was a funny show, with Conway playing an officious, ineffectual Barney Fife-type character who invariably catches the bad guy by mistake. That was the trouble: The premise was good for maybe eight episodes or so, but it'd be sure to get WAY old over a full season. It was a fun show for the few weeks that it lasted, though. The trademark exchange: Rango tells Pink Cloud, "We're going to [catch the villain by such-and-such means]." Pink Cloud (skeptical): "How?" Rango: "Oh, knock off the Indian lingo, Pink Cloud!" Another memorable exchange, when Pink Cloud finds himself locked up in jail, and Rango reassures him, "I'll have you out of there in no time, Pink Cloud." Pink Cloud replies, "That's what they told the Count of Monte Cristo; he was in for 15 years!"
One of the many short lived Tim Conway series. He played a bumbling Sheriff's Deputy in the old west. His Indian sidekick was hysterical.
