The show keeps getting less funny by the second. I started watching in the beginning of 2006 when my house started getting free HBO for some unknown reason. Now, I can't even watch it. The recent season finale was the nail in the coffin.

If HBO has a brain, then they need to cancel this show and replace it with a new late night talk show. Even when Dennis Miller Live started to slow down, it was still funnier than this crap.
I was going to tune into the season finale until I saw the lineup.

Let's see, Ariana Huffington, Phil Donohue, and Garry Shandling. And as if that's not enough, Bill brings back his lover Matt Taibbi.

Between this crew, Bill, and the audience, you essentially have something a little ideologically to the right of the Soviet Politburo of 1936, right around the time the purges started.

It's really time for this show to die.
"That's just the way conservatives work: too stupid to even know they're stupid. No, actually, that's not true for all of them."

I doubt Bill much thought that the night that Danielle Pletka pretty much PWNED him and the other panelists when she was on. Honestly, she made Bill look pretty stupid. I remember reading various left-oriented message boards the week after that episode and the hatred and bile directed toward this woman was stunning. Oh, how the peasants didn't like it when their king was defeated.

That and when Paul Krugman from the NY times was ranting about private contractors in Iraq was forced to admit by Tucker Carlson that his own paper employs those very same contractors. The guy cowered like a little girl when forced to admit that he was a hypocrite.

I also got a chuckle when those 9/11 protesters disrupted the show and Bill sort of fearfully made a couple of remarks back to them as they got worse and worse in their disruptions but as soon as the security personal were on top of them, Bill then let out a cocky "Do I have to come over their and kick their asses myself!" You go little man! Stand behind that security guard and talk tough! All 5ft nothing of you!
Let's cut all the b.s. out. Okay. The fact is Bill Maher isn't and never was a comedian. He didn't really get a chance to find his craft so he talks about politics. Why does HBO keep this show but they cancel Deadwood and Lucky Louie?
I used to love this show but im starting to not like bill very much. He just seems to become more and extremist as the seasons roll on. The worst episode was a few weeks ago where richard dawkins, the king of psuedo scientific dogmatic crapola comes on the air to shove his lousy god delusion book down our throats. Really, give me a break I'm basically an atheist myself and even i am offended by this guy. lately Bill seems to have joined the "eliminating religion will make all problems go away" bandwagon. And to me and anyone else with a brain, that idea is just as ignorant as any zealot ranting about how atheists and agnostics are destroying the world with their lack of faith. Seeing this bull on even one episode makes me question the shows merit. This is the kind of stuff i expect out of the bizzaro world's sean hannity.

My new rules.
"Dont have so many awful guests"
Dont have gary shandling on the show ever again. Hes a dumb as a rock and half as funny.

"No more religion bashing please
This is supposed to be a political show. Also never have dawkins on again. he's living proof that all the education in the world does not stop someone from being an ignorant douche.

"STFU crowd"
I lean quite a bit to the left and i find these audiences annoying. Just because someone's a liberal doesn't make them always right and the conservatives aren't always wrong either. Maybe they could get some decent conservatives (a few do exist) to make the discussion more worthwhile.
The audience of trained seals is rather grating regardless of your political stripe. Do they pass out Kool Aid before this show is taped?

I've also noticed an extremist liberal such as Bill will use a term such as "white trash" almost religiously. I thought you EL's cared about all of the lower classes/poor people--not just the ones who meet a racial litmus test that gives you a quiet thrill of moral superiority if you care about them?
@Leo

On the first point, you basically made my point. The intelligent conservatives avoid the show, not because they can't defend the Bush Administration, but because they know the show for what it is, and understand they won't really get a fair shake.

The second point in essence justifies the first. It's hard to make any kind of an argument when you're constantly being interrupted or drowned out in a chorus of boos. The incident last year where Bill had to eject the hecklers from his audience demonstrates how much of a victim he is of his own policy - a loud, obnoxious audience is acceptable until they begin objecting to me - then, well, time to yank out the Latin dictionary and remind everyone that "audience" means "to listen". He might want to remind them of that more often.

Third point, I thought you liberals were not the "follow the crowd" type, but heck, it's your choice.
@ pjg1975:

The conservatives he does try to bring on are those typically not smart enough to understand what they're getting themselves into.

That's just the way conservatives work: too stupid to even know they're stupid. No, actually, that's not true for all of them. Maher had many conservatives on in earlier years, but as he has said, it's getting more difficult to get conservatives on who want to defend the Bush-administration. And can you blame them? I wouldn't want to do that myself.

And how much "intelligence" does it take to win an argument when it's 80 against 1?

What has that got to do with it? The conservatives hust have no argument against Maher.

Maher could say, "I eat poop" and his two leftist guests, and the entire audience would applaud in complete agreement. That's not intelligence, that's stacking the deck.
That's what people who are "afraid" to argue do.

So if people show intelligence and crush mindblowingly
@Leo,

What are you, his booking agent? The conservatives he does try to bring on are those typically not smart enough to understand what they're getting themselves into.

And before you accuse me of "not watching the show", I actually watch regularly. And Bill's pattern is not hard to detect.

Heck, I like the show. Everyone, from Bill, to the guests, to the audience..it's totally gay (happy).
@pjg1975:

The reason there aren't any conservative guests on his show anymore, is because they are all too afraid to go on. Because they know their nonsense can't compete with Maher's intelligence. This is the only show on tv where conservative tools don't get a free pass.

And judging by your qualification of Maher, I'm sure you can't comprehend this.
@Angie Clark:

If you think "those leftist hotheads" are "out of touch with reality", you haven't been paying attention for the past 8 years. But alas, most people who use phrases like "leftist hotheads" haven't anyway. And by the way, Maher agreed with them 90% of the time, and according to you he was "the voice of reason".
The panel on this past Friday's show was so out of touch with reality it was hard to watch. Maher seemed to be the voice of reason among those leftist hotheads. How was it that Amy Holmes managed to gain sympathy from this liberal while also appearing to be a victim in relation to the other four?
Bill "i am always right no matter even if i am wrong" Maher is a tool. his show is the worst thing on TV. He has major mother issues.
Dear Jen,

Since I "pay" for the show with my HBO subscription, I can watch and trash it all I want. If you want to start paying my cable bill, you're free to control my remote.

I personally watch for the ridiculousness of it all. Bill Maher is the most pompous, arrogant ass in the history of television. And what makes him worse is that he feels the need to surround himself with a lap-dog audience and adoring panelists to defend his wacky arguments.

And if this show is so popular, why does he continue to re-tool it? What's with the guest reporter? And can he find no other guests to book than P.J. O'Rourke and D.L. Hughley? I guess he has a thing for initials.

He really doesn't even try to book conservatives anymore - most of them have wised up to his hatchet job act.

But hey, it doesn't mean I can't tune in and see how gay (happy) the festivities are, week after week.
WOW! for a bunch of Bush-lovers who hate the show you guys can sure go into great detail about certain shows. So, you hate the show and it jumped on day one, yet you watch it and can recite it!
Typical heartless right wingers, long winded with nothing interesting to say. Some of you even go as far as to cut down how Bill looks...Really? Are you THAT threatened?
Isn't there a new Anne Coulter book out that you guys can read instead?
By the way, Dennis Miller did have a show on HBO.....it sucked!
