I like this show because... well... It is what it is.
It's a harmless comedy. And the writers didn't intend on it being anything else. Even in the main promo for the show, it says something along the lines of "One show will inspire a generation and change life... Reaper won't be that show."
It's just good clean fun. It's funny, and so far the plot isn't half-bad. Besides, if the writers had intended this to be a serious drama, their portrayal of the Devil would be a little more dark... Not a trouble-making smartass.
I agree with a previous poster - Sock absolutely steals the show. Quietly becoming one of the funniest characters on TV.
And it's waaaaaaay too early to argue that this show has jumped the shark.

Just what we need--another lame-ass comedy with a premise ripped off from both Dead Like Me as well as Home Improvement. Ever since cancellation of the latter series in 1999, shows about home improvement just haven't been funny at all. As bad as the economy is, The Work Bench will likely go out of business--possibly a mirror reflection of one of Home Depot's rivals (i.e. Menards) biting the dust.
Jumper episode: "Coming To Grips". I actually turned off the TV and refused to watch the rest of the episode right after Sam MAKES A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL. He's in a unique position to know that this is NEVER a good idea no matter what the circumstances. The Devil talks to him. The Devil lets him see just how loathsome he is on a daily basis. And yet Sam basically jumps up and clicks his heels, he's so eager to shake hands with the Lord of Darkness, promising to do him "any favor, BIG or small" sometime in the future.
AUGH! AAAUUUUGH!! Really? C'mon, people. C'mon, Sam. You're not SO dimwitted that you're oblivious to the implications, are you? Big favor for the Devil = any number of incredibly unpleasant scenarios, the most likely of which involves inflicting torment and misery upon the people you care about, man. Candidate numero uno - ANDY!!!
Holy buckets, egads, for crying out loud, this is just BAD writing. You can almost hear them in the background saying "alright, here's how we set him up to fail... this is the big moment when he throws it all away, but he doesn't know it". You can almost see the shark soaring over Satan's head.
It's all way too contrived, even for a goofy little formulaic comedy like Reaper.

I found Brimstone boring and Reaper interesting, sorry fellow Geeks, maybe if Shatner makes an appearance you'll be happy
I'm waiting for the final show, where we find out that the "Devil" isn't really the devil at all... It would explain so much!
i'm sick and tired of these kinds of shows depicting the devil as some sort of mischievous comic instead of the scary monster he should be.and wouldn't the devil want evil to escape and cause hell on earth?reaper is a rip-off of brimstone which was a ripp-off of spawn.
I love this show. I don't have to think about anything, I can just accept whatever they throw at me and the characters are fun. Why over analyze a show that should be taken at face value. Sock was a little lame at first, but now he steals the show.
Um did u guys know that Reaper has no telekinesis powers? His powers change depending on the soul he has to catch.Sometimes he doesnt really get powers,he just gets clues usually. Like when that one cop's address was tattood on his arm.
I agree with the majority of posts that this show is somewhat of a rip-off of "BRIMSTONE", But I do like the comedy factor they incorporated into it. The first episode didn't really impress me but it has been getting better with each new episode, Largely due to good character developement, Like Sock's researching and understanding the feelings of Christine Willies' character,(The DMV Demon). I hope we'll see more interaction between those two.
Any show that shows Christine Willes (DMV Demon) in a bra has got my vote. Christine deserves an Emmy and the writers deserve an Emmy.
That was the jaw dropping best.

This show is merely another ripoff of 'Brimstone'. It is so lame that Jumping the shark would probably improve it. The villians have no character, the devil is far too nice, and there is entirely too much slacker/workplace nonsense.
I must reluctantly correct prev. poster Capt. Midnight: In the very fine "Brimstone" show, it was 113 souls that escaped from Hell, and the "hellcop" sent to get 'em back was sent to Hell in the 1st place for killing his wife's rapist (as they say) In Cold Blood. But he's right, "Reaper" is VERY similar to "Brimstone" --"Reaper," tho, has (more) comedic elements & a more likeable version of Lucifer/The Devil. (Ray Wise plays him w/shades of grey -- he seems to be almost like a "warden" with contempt for the escaped evil souls from his domain.) I hope "Reaper" doesn't over-play the "nerd/slacker/loser" angle, tho.
Actually, Reaper is a ripoff of th TV show Brimstone. In that show, a guy kills some people that hurt his family. The devil sends him up to catch 99 escaped souls. Each of the soul's names are tatooed on his arm and they fade when he catches one. He also has some powers which he can't control (much like Sam did in the first episode but hasn't really done since). Brimstone comes on the Chiller channel now. All that being said, I like Reaper. The lead actor was great in Aireline. For some reason though, i just get the feelin Reaper is missing something.
