Never Jumped
Day One
Rick Green and Patrick McKenna leave the show
Harold goes to the city
It became popular
Shark Bytes
I agree with some other posters that it was never quite the same without Pat McKenna, though the "Red visits Harold at the office" skits provided some good laughs (especially the "woman boss" bit). And I missed Rick Green's bizarre physical comedy as Bill--I think they should have dropped the "Adventures" segments when he left, instead of continuing them with different characters.
But overall, it was a funny, kind of sweet show that I could watch with my kids and just relax. That's not too bad a legacy.

This isn't life changing television, but it made fun of DIY, outdoors, and public access shows so smoothly that you didn't see Bob Villa or Kent Hrbek or any other host you can think of trying rail against the show.
This is why the show will never jump.

If this show jumped the shark, it did so backwards. In my opinion, the show got consistently better over the years. Red seems to lack energy in his voice in the early years. Perhaps that was intentional, but it made it a little tougher for me to watch. After a few years, he got a little more energy and they introduced some new bits that livened the show up. This might be a case where CanCon is a good thing. If it had been an American show, it might not have been given a chance to reach its stride.
This show is simply awesome. One of the few shows i can watch with my dad and not have to worry about some uncomfortable fart or sex joke.
I used to watch old Red & the gang up at the lodge on my local PBS affiliate at 6:30 as an antidote to the evening news. It worked! Favorite characters: Harold, & Winston Rothchild.
Corner Gas is awesome.
WGN shows reruns Sunday Night at 11:30 and Midnight EST and Monday- Thursday at midnight.

Red Green ended two seasons ago;
However they continue to show reruns on PBS.
Red Green is cool. Maybe not the greatest show in the world; but at least it ain't 30 minutes of sex jokes like Two and a Half Men or How I met your Mother.
Or all the stupid reality shows on TV!

Ohhh -- 'the Red Green Show.' Boy, does that take me back. I remember that it was used as filler on the Seattle PBS channel for years because there were actually some viewers that actually thought it was funny. Sort of like all those awful 'Brit Coms' the station put on all the time -- low-cost shows that are bought in bulk and used to fill the gaps. There wer actually some people who thought "are You Being Served?' was funny, but I digress.
The Red Green Show was not funny at all. More a series of jokes about duct tape and the fact that outdoorsmen tend to wear plaid and flannel. And that awful guy they brough in to play keyboards! This was the sort of show that you would use as evidence that with the rise of cable, PBS was no longer necessary.
Terrible show -- sucked from Day 1.

This is a fun show. Not great. A lot of repetition, but it's fun, doesn't take itself seriously, and that's what is important. I would have to agree that when McKenna left the show it lost some charm, but coming back with the office stuff was a breath of fresh air, some different content in Harold's new life, and getting married,e tc., but the show is running out of gas. Time to end it.
Dear friends of Red Green. To the fans at the top of the page, yes there are seasons out on DVD. I don't know if anyone was able to answer that for you yet so I figured I would. Keep yer stick on the ice!
A classic Canadian TV show which never jumped--and sadly, was available only on my local PBS station in Indianapolis. I am not aware of any DVD releases for The Red Green Show as of yet.
Why aren't there JTS threads for other Canadian shows such as Corner Gas, This Hour Has 20 Minutes and Night Heat, yet they are available for SCTV and Due South? All of the shows mentioned outclass anything American television has to offer, and that includes The Simpsons since 2000.

I'd have to say the Red Green show jumped was when Harold left the lodge & worked in that company office. Or even worse, when they started showing that lame cartoon based on the characters over & over again. But for the most part, this show was great. It had many amusing segements : the Possum Lodge word game, handyman's corner, the recitation of the men's prayer, etc. I appreciate Canadian humor because I'm of Canadian descent. Frankly, it's really a stupid show (someone at church recommended it & ever since then I've been hooked).
