Got the DVD of Schoolhouse Rock and it is indeed good (with extras like informative commentary by the creators and a short film on how they won emmies and all). JTS doesn't report an end date for this (actually--yes) tv show but I somewhat doubt they are still making them. I don't think the show ever really jumped--it was always imaginative, educational and fun.
I did a schoolhouse rock style song on both the Civil War (sung by Emeril Lagasse's daughter Jillian) and a song about the War of 1812 (sung by John Finkbiner of "the stereotypes") and students and teachers love it.

As far as I am concerned SHR never jumped the shark. I use to love the rabbit in Lucky number seven. Can still hear you can call me lucky bouncing around in my head from time to time.
SHR never jumped. I still can remember the songs and what they said even decades later.
Oh, and TL, the US, while it lost some battles to the Brits in Canada, was not defeated in the war. The US actually had some successes such as at Lundy's Lane, the Great Lakes, and The Battle of the Thames.

Schoolhouse Rock was so cool!!! It never jumped. "I'm just a bill, I'm only a bill.I'm sittin' here on Capitol Hill" Doesn't get much better than that!!
SHAME on these two posters, especially as this is "Schoolhouse Rock" and they're typing about it:
seamas -- Your spelling of "privileged"
as "privelidged" is surprisingly poor. The rest of the spelling appears to be stronger except for "majic."
chris jacob -- Most of your (relatively short) post needs an overhaul in many places.

I'm 13 years old and my mom bought me the VHS tape of this when I was 10, I love school house rock and it never jumped the shark! I wish all cartoons today could be like this!
"Am I the only one who noticed that they never did a song about the American Civil War or did a song about The War of 1812? I know it'd be harder to make those topics work for a song, however, just think what the world would be like today if the South had won the Civil War or if the British had won the War of 1812! I mean, really, think about it for a second. This would be a totally different world around us!"
You know America kind of lost the War of 1812 to Canada, right?

Hi, my only comment is that I remember this starting in 1972 or 73, I was in 4th grade at the time. Not 1975....
Love them, I'm watching the dvd now
Peace.

Thanks to SchoolHouse Rock, I can recite the Preamble to the Constitution. How many shows can you say that about?
And Conjunction Junction. I've got a t-shirt with that on it.
These things were just the best. Never jumped.

I was privelidged to have gone to grammar school with one of the daughters of an executive producer of Schoolhouse Rock
As a matter of fact, my first concert was performed by the musicians who recorded the Schoolhouse Rock songs.
They played at my Elementary school in about 1974 or so.
I saw Little Twelvetoes and Figure Eight Live, Plus Three is a majic Number and the #5 song.
(I remember the roadies and back-up musicians being freaky hippie types).
I believe the inspiration for the little girl in Figure 8 was a friend of the producer's daughter -both lived along my bus route. That song, needless to say was their favorite.
I bought the DVD for my toddler son when he was a baby. Most everything stands up well with the possible exception of the very latest material (Money rock), which is the weakest.
On the whole, I think they started with their strongest material.
