"There was an old sci fi episode of Twilight Zone? where these little blue people would paint the next events in time (i.e. red lights to green lights, etc) but for the life of me I can't find any info on it. Do you have any idea what I'm talking about?"

The answer is...

"That episode is from the New Twilight Zone.... thats how you know the men were blue (it was in color). I don't recall the name of the episode although "A Matter of Time" sounds right. Great episode... it explains how you can loose your car keys and find them two days later in the same spot!"- Ed

"What was Lt. Chano's fate on Barney Miller? Was he shot in the line of duty or just written out of the series?"

The answer is...

"I think Chano was simply faded out as Detrick was phased in. Gregory Sierra had gone on to another series by the same producers, "HMS Hudson Street" which bombed after about four episodes." - RMK

Can someone help Captain Z?

"I remember seeing this Japanese cartoon when I was young. In it there was this little girl who had powers ( one was see could grow up). She had a dog and some other animal that talked. The story was that their plane crashed in the mountains and all the adults turned into kids. At the end the place they are in explodes. Has anybody seen or heard anything like that?"

The answer is...

"This show is "Magical Princess Minky Momo", and was originally a hit with girls a generation ago, in Japan. Nostalgia for the character brought her back in an updated outfit, but identical premise, for a second series a few years ago. To help verify that this is correct - she had red-pink hair with a green-starred yellow scarf in it, yellow moon-boots, and a necklace with a star on it. She'd pull at this, a candy-cane looking wand would come out, and she could transform into a young woman. Her companion was a sheepdog and what I think is a mouse. If I remember the basic story, it went along the lines that a princess of Dreamland was sent to live with a human family, to learn what being human was all about. She'd use her transformation to help kids with those tough moral problems on the playground, and to help the adults see that, really, the kids are alright. In the one you describe, Minky helps the Peter Pan pseudo-bad guy realize that adults aren't bad, and that it's OK to grow up. Once he's no longer a child, all the other 'kids' grow up, too, and the mountain hideaway is destroyed to keep Peter's Fountain of Youth from an evil society. This very piece was horribly dubbed and sold as "The Magical Princess Gigi" in the States as a video so bad, the producer's name is misspelled on the box - the great anime evil Carl Macek. There are a few fansubs (non-commercial copies of movies/series translated to English as subtitles, produced by fans of material not yet licensed for sale or distribution in the States) of the Minky movies out - "Bridge for Your Tomorrows" is a tear-jerker, and "State of Embarcation" brings the old and new Minkys (Minkies ?) together. Oddly enough, the movies are quite philosophical and serious-toned, especially for what's supposed to be Pokemon-level kid fluff. Well worth seeking out - an anime society near you may have more information, or even a set of copies. Be sure to scout around on line with the correct name!"- Shinobu

"when i was younger, there was this show on nickelodeon. it was kind of like saved by the bell. it was about the life of like 5 or 6 high schoolers. the only two things i remember were this little cafe shop thing they always went to and one of the girls was named ashley?"

The answer is...

"The show was called "Fifteen" it was about High School kids on Nickelodeon...i used to watch it when i was about 15...it aired around 1992 or so...but they kept switching the cast up and you could never tell what years the shows were from and in what order...the main characters were Billy...Chris, Dylan, Ashley. Coincidentally the girl who plays Ashley wound up playing the monster and going nude in the movie "The Faculty"."- Anthony

"I believe the answer is "You can't do that on television" or "Don't do that on Television." - Howler

"The name of the show you are looking for is Welcome Freshman. It was a campy, funny show that was made in the early-90's. The characters always met at the mall, and the show had fake commercials and sketches that included the teens as they went through high school life. You can also read more about it on the jumping-the-shark website. I'm sorry that I do not remember that much about it, but I was about 9 or 10 at the time, but let me tell you that I did like it as a kid. I hope this helps." - Andrew

Can someone help Paul?

"I remember fondly seeing a recurring act on just about every top variety show on TV at one time or another during the 1950s and 1960s. The Banana Man came out onstage dressed in a huge baggy coat and clown makeup and towing a trunk. He never talked, sort of whined a song, usually "Sweet Georgia Brown". Throughout his act he would pull out of his coat all sorts of bizarre props for a one-joke gag (sort of like what Carrot Top does today), and occasionally make a few clothing and wig adjustments to totally transform himself into another clown (even changing his sex!), and always pull from his coat amazing bunches of bananas. He'd usually end his act by taking from the trunk several smaller ones nested inside it, all of which looked like the cars of a little train, and he'd go off pulling this row of trunks as if he were playing train. Anyone either remember this, too, or know of any information about who he was and what happened to him? I'd really like to know! With exposure of the sort that he got, he just had to have been well known to all the major stars and networks."

The answer is...

"I don't recall this vaudevillian comedian, but apparently his real name was A. Robbins and he was part of the cast of Captain Kangaroo. See: http://www.tvparty.com/lostterrytoons.html Another website says that the Banana Man also appeared on the Mickey Mouse Club."- Leigh-Ann

"Help! Identify these four 80's shows.

1) A live action prime-time TV show about a team of super-heroes. One of the heroes could shoot lighting from his hands, and another could shrink his body down to 12" in height. Weird memory fragment: The shrinking guy, who was black, shrunk down to 12" but his clothes didn't. So while shrunk, he wore a Michael Jackson outfit (w/ single white glove!) that he took off a Michael Jackson doll, because it was the only male doll to fit him.

2) This family somehow became trapped this alternate dimension where the people drove these weird cars. The family somehow settled down in a city, and found out that all the products were generic - at the store, all you could buy were white cans of tomamtoes labled "tomatoes" and so forth.

3) A martial arts show. There was an old martial arts master teamed up with a younger guy. They wore black bodysuits, and in one episode rescued Boy George.

4) Super obscure: It was on PBS. I saw ONE episode of this show ever, then I never heard of it ever again. Very odd. There was this regular suburban family, then all this surreal stuff starts to happen. This maid turns out to be some kind of voodoo priestess, and this starving ethiopian kids suddenly appears in the house. The mother then starts going insane..."

The answer is...

"1) Misfits of Science. No idea about the others"- StumpMaster

"I think #3 was "The Master," with Lee van Cleef as, well, the master." - Mark

"I heard (never saw) of a show called "Otherworld" that could be the answer to your Question #2." - John

"No, it wasn't this. The voodoo woman was not Della Reese, she was much younger. Also, the show was intended to be a comedy." - A Durbak

Can you remember the episode, the year and the song? Thanks!"

The answer is...

She could stop time by touching her fingers together, I think... and she could restart it by clapping (??) ... Please help!"

"Which band or solo artist has performed on Saturday Night Live more than any other?"

The answer is...

"My guess would be Paul Simon"- StumpMaster

"Paul Simon is a good guess; I think Sting has been on a hell of a lot of times too. Madonna has been on a few times, too, but I think at least one of those times she didn't sing.

Upon further review (well, at www.saturday-night-live.com , that is), Paul Simon looks like he's No. 1 with 10 appearances, though the site doesn't differentiate if he sang each appearance or not. Tom Petty is second with 7, and James Taylor and Sting both have six (again, Sting might not have sung on each appearance). Madonna, oddly, has only been on twice -- it seems like more for some reason. Maybe I'm confusing SNL with MTV's VMAs" - Joe

The answer is...

"Hello, Larry." This is the show McLean Stevenson gave up M*A*S*H for. Despite being a national joke for being so bad, it managed to survive the 1979 season and was renewed for 1980. "I was watching the Peter Seller's film "Being There" last night which shows lots of tv/commercial clips from the 70's. Durring the scene where he is driven to Shirley McClaine's mansion- he is in the limo watching the tv and there is this strange animated bit playing. It's a cartoon of a Fat Albert style black kid singing about how he has a "basketball jones" (as in jonesin' to play basketball) but he's too short, etc. - the song gets all elaborate & builds up to this weird intense gospel/choir thing. It was strangely stirring despite it's silliness & I'm intrigued to know what the hell it was-was it a commercial? Part of a movie/cartoon? I'm sure it was something from actual tv as all the other clips shown were of existing commercials/shows. Anyone???"

The answer is...

"The first time I saw the cartoon was in the movie, believe it or not, but the soundtrack to that cartoon was from an old Cheech & Chong album where a rising black basketball star was asked to explain how he got to be a star despite being 4'8" or something like that. He says "A Basketball Jones is where you loooooooove basketball so much you are like a junkie" and then sings a little song "Basketball Jones/I got a Basketball Jones/I got a Basketball Jones O Baby ooo-ooo-ooo" and in the end while the choir is singing he starts saying stuff like "I can shoot from half-court with my tongue" and like that. It came out in the 70's and my buddies and I used to listen to that 8-Track A LOT...and back then, for some reason, EVERYTHING was funny, if you get my drift...."- John

The answer is...

"I'm almost sure that this was either Knight Rider because KITT on that show was always being carried on a truck especially for maintenance jobs or it's less than seen spin-off, Knight Rider 2000, which had three to four different KITT cars also I think continually being transported by truck." - William

I don't remember anything except the fact that at the end of the theme song, there was this small image of a girl dancing in the bottom, right-hand corner. In the show, the cast hung out at this cafe. What is this? I also remember another show that was on Nickelodeon. My guess is it was on in '96. Anyway, all the characters spoke with an English accent (much like the S Club 7 cast's accent) and they all lived in, like, a forest preserve or something. When it was a new show and they had commercials for it, they said, "How would you like this to be your backyard? (then they showed a swamp with trees behind it) Or be best friends with dolphins?" "Have you ever heard of the saying "Dreezle, Drazzle, Drome, Time for this one to come home."? I think I heard it in one of the Saturday morning cartoons of my youth, but I'm not sure which one."

"That would be Tooter Turtle, one segment of the "King Leonardo and His Short Subjects" show. More info and some downloads are available at this address... http://members.tripod.com/~toonin/kingodie.htm "- RMK

"The cartoon was called Tutor Turtle. Tutor Turtle was a little turtle (dah!) who always wanted to be somebody else. Well, always against Mr. Wizards better judgment, he would send Tutor via magic off to be whatever Tutor wished to be. But it always ended up bad, such as the knight in shining amour about to be burnt to a crisp by a dragon, at this point Tutor would always scream, "Misssssster Wizard!!! I want to come hooooome!!! Then Mr. Wizard would recite the spell that always brought Tutor back, "Dreezle, Drazzle, Drome, Time for this one to come home." "OK, here's a TV show I remember seeing as a kid that hopefully someone can help me identify. This was maybe the fall of 1978. The program was about a husband and wife who switched bodies thanks to some mysterious Egyptian idol or something, which they'd picked up somewhere. It was kind of a precursor to "Vice Versa" and other movies involving the same theme. The husband had black curly hair and the wife was blonde. Somehow they were trying to find a way to switch bodies back again (obviously) but in the meantime the focus of the show was seeing how they dealt with being in the wrong body. I don't believe the show lasted more than one season. Thanks for any help on this one."

Pluto on the upper floor while Donald was dragged around the ceiling in the apartment below. I have been searching those video collections (suffering thru some awful stuff) in the hopes of finding this one - no luck. Does anyone remember the title?"

The answer is...

"Appropriately enough, "Donald and Pluto", from 1936. More information at http://us.imdb.com/Title?0027538 "- Roger

"We are in need of a specific scene from a western movie or TV show. The scene is the "File in the Pie" scene where a woman brings a pie to jail when visiting her husband or son. In the pie contains a file which is used for means of escape. Do you have any idea what western TV show or movie has this scene in it? Do you recall the Cisco Kid having a scene like this? We have been looking for so long. If you could help us out that would be terrific! Thanks so much for your time."

The answer is...

"Buster Keaton did this in his 1928 film "Steamboat Bill, Jr." He brings as file in bread to his jailed father. Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but this may be where they got the idea-- also may help some other reader find the real answer you're looking for."- Doug

"This was a show on PBS that I don't really remember a lot about. I remember seeing it when I was in grade 4 but it could have been in reruns then. That would have been around 1984. It was about a bunch of kids that hung out in some kind of clubhouse and tried to solve mysteries. I remember a computer monitor that sat on a desk and would give the kids clues. The clues would be on blue back ground I think with white lettering. The kids also I think could travel through time to solve the mysteries."

The answer is...

"321 contact, I think was the name of the show."- Kyle

"I'm pretty sure that is Ghostwriter. There was a little thing that looked like a dandelion head floating from the screen to the real world right? If there was, that is definitely Ghostwriter" - Mike

"it was not Ghostwriter (that show was mid-90s), but was in fact "Read all About It". The general plotline was 4 kids (probably early teens in age) who ran a newspaper somewhere in Ontario (could have been either Toronto or Kingston). Of course, their Coachhouse (where they put the newspaper together) also had a transporter to the galaxy of Trialviron where the evil Lord Dunedin would attempt to take over the world. They traveled in time to deal with the War of 1812 and had a couple other mega-adventures...." - Jon

"Does anyone know which show has the episode where a little white girl plays with a doll that is black, which distresses the girl's father. The episode ends with the a live black girl running away from the house with no sign of the white girl except for a doll that resembles the missing white girl. This was in the early '60s. I thought it was Hitchcock, but I couldn't find it in the episode guides."

The answer is...

"Lordy, lordy, lordy! I could have sworn this haunting little program was Hitchcock, too. It wasn't a father but a mother played by none other than Bea Benaderet, Kay Bradley off Petticoat Junction. If this eerie little story wasn't Hitchcock, another one in the series had to be one with Pat Buttram, Mr. Haney from Green Acres, beheading his wife and putting her head in a jar and showing it to the neighbors to guess what it was. It may not have been Hitchcock but it was Bea Benaderet at the end of the program clutching the doll in the woods and crying after she had run off the little black girl. Maybe that will help."- Richard

"Well, I don't know if this is the right answer to Herschel's question, but Richard is talking about a series called "Vacation Playhouse". It was a summer replacement show which featured pilots that had not been sold. The episode that Richard is referring to (the one he thinks Herschel is talking about) was called "All About Barbara" - StumpMaster

"I'm pretty sure the show of the little white girl playing with the black doll that comes alive at the end was an episode of ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS. But it may have been ONE STEP BEYOND, which featured "true" accounts like that." - Paul

"The title of the episode you are looking for is "Where the Woodbind Twineth" and was on Twilight Zone, One Step Beyond or Outer Limits (could have been Hitchcock, but I don't think so)." - Hal

"There was a show on the sci-fi channel saturday mornings either right before or right after mystery science 3000 probably around 1993 or so. It had a feel like a news magazine show and this sci-fi aficionado would talk about various mysterious sci-fi stories, etc. There was often a large emphasis on alien sightings and ghost sightings. I thought it was called something like "mysteries from beyond the other dominion" but that isn't on your site and the first word is the one i'm least sure of. So rather than wade through the many shows listed, i'll just ask that stumpmaster guy. Thanks"

The answer is...

"The show was indeed called "Mysteries from Beyond the Other Dominion" and was hosted by Dr. Franklin Ruehl whom always seemed to be in a brown polyester suit. I believe he had a doctorate in nuclear engineering (seriously) and his show started out on basic cable. It was on Sci-Fi Channel's very first year on the air and came on Sunday nights. Essentially, anything covering aliens, bizarre and crackpot theories, weird science or the just plain bizarre would be on the show. The sets and effects were very low budget and Dr. Ruehl was overly enthusiastic about the topics and would often flail his bony arms in excitement while reading the cue cards. I think it came on at 9:00PM after "Sci-Fi Buzz". Admittedly, it was an oddly addictive show."- Tommy

However, when the idiot little kid named Seven (man, I hated that kid!!) decided that he wanted a birthday, Peggy rattled off a couple of dates, January 22 (Bud's birthday) and November 27 (Kelly's birthday), so those would be the most accurate birthdays. "I remember watching an animated black and white short in the mornings before I went to school, back in the mid 60's. I think it was set on the moon, and featured an older man, probably a scientist, and a boy, running around in spacesuits in sort of slow motion. the plots were pretty simple and there might have been some other characters too. I don't think it was anime, but it was pretty dark and surrealistic and seemed quite old, even then. The thing I remember most, though, was the background music. It was always the same ominous, dramatic, descending-toned riff played over and over again. (DAAAAA! DA! DA! DA! DA-DA-DA!) I was probably eight or ten when I saw this last and haven't seen it since. To me, It seemed to have a sort of a "Lost in Space" feel about it, though darker, and much older. Makes me think it could have been influential to some later shows."

The answer is...

"Could it have been "Mr.E from Tau Ceti"? I only know one other person who's ever heard of it. It was about a young alien stranded on earth. "Can someone help? I saw this show twice on the Disney channel (I don't think it was a series or anything like that) where this young British-sounding girl befriended this rabbit who was basically a man dressed up like a funky-looking Easter bunny and his name was Mr. Nibbles. His first name began with an "E" and he would come out of this magic barrel. The show looked like it was from the early seventies. The girl's name was Mary and she had a younger sister who was petrified of mice. Was this show a series? Does anyone know what this show even was or who was in it?"

The answer is...

"Sounds very similar to a program that did air on the CBS Children's Film Festival, well back into the seventies. An English program, a white rabbit costumed character that only one girl could see. She had to close her eyes and count to five or something, and when she tried to let another girl in on the secret, her sister or a friend, the other girl screamed and ran away crying 'mummy, mummy, mummy'. Finally everyone was allowed to see the rabbit at the end and he materialized as he crawled backwards out of a barrel at a birthday party. Very 'Harvey' like. Does this sound like it could be it? "Does anyone remember a horror anthology from the early seventies? In one episode it had a boy crushing dead leaves who accidentally created a doppleganger that was always getting getting him into trouble with his teacher. When she crushed the same type of leaves, her doppleganger went to help the first doppleganger terrorize the kid. Another episode had a little girl who controlled and manipulated her family with dolls that looked like them in a dollhouse version of their house. When the real house caught fire, the girl had to rescue her dolls from the dollhouse in order to wake up her family and rescue them. All her dolls were clothed in fabrics from the clothing of her family. This anthology series opened up on the shots of a darkened but spooky old house."

The answer is...

"Could it have been "Night Gallery"? It was a Rod Serling production. "- Rick

"I could think of two possibilities for you, maybe one will ring a bell. There was Darkroom in 1981 And there was Tales of the Unexpected from 1977. I think it was probably the latter, as the story ideas sound like something from Roald Dahl, who helped develop the series." - Daune

"I think the show was Circle of Fear. It was on on Friday nights. I remember the episode with the dolls and the fire. As I recall, there were not that many episodes, to my disappointment. It was on in about 1973 or 1974." - Andrew

"I recognize the dollhouse episode, but I don't recall where I saw it from. "In Quantum Leap, was Sam Beckett married? My friend told me that there were some episodes that dealt with his life before the Quantum Leap project, but I haven't seen any of them. Can anyone help me?"

The answer is...

"Yes. In the first episodes of the third season, a 2-parter called "The Leap Home", we meet Sam's wife Katie"- StumpMaster

"QL dorks always told me that this wasn't 100% true; that Sam was NOT married at the start of the show. I didn't really care until I saw a re-run from the first season on USA (episode #2 or #3, I believe; I remember that the Watergate break-in happened during the episode). In that episode, Sam leaps into someone who knows Katie. He remembers that he liked her several years ago but missed his chance to meet her. So leaping-Sam changes Katie's schedule, hoping that she'll run into young-Sam and things will be different. Then, two seasons later in "The Leap Home," we see the fruits of his efforts: they've been married for years, and nobody remembers differently because he changed history! I loved the way they fit that in there when I was a kid." - Mark

"In the first regular episode of the show (after the pilot) Sam leaped into a college professor and has a chance to reunite two lovers....but also meets his once-fiancée, Donna Elise, who because of unresolved issues with the father that abandoned her, had left Sam at the altar....So Sam reunites Donna with her father (who works at the Pentagon, and yes there is a reference to the Watergate break-in) in the hopes that she will marry him in her future (his past). In THE LEAP HOME, we meet Donna in Sam's present (1999) on Project QL. Young Donna was played by Teri Hatcher in her pre-Lois & Clark days. The older Donna (married to Sam) was played by Mimi Kuzyk from Hill Street Blues. In the intervening episodes, and even in all of the later episodes, there is no mention of Donna, presumably because Sam's brain is Swiss-Cheesed and he has gaps in his memory and Al is not allowed to tell Sam what he doesn't remember." - John
