Never had time to jump. Excellent songs, bizzare story lines, this show had it all!
Some of the greatest comedy to grace the small screen. And I'm not just saying this cause my name is F**kin' Lee.
With the release of all of the original episodes on DVD now, I can say that this show did NOT jump at all. It didn't even have the time to (although the short films, also on the DVD but I don't know if they ever aired, are REALLY sick)! And I don't think the band jumped the shark either. Adding drums and "real" musicians for the album was completely necessary - it sounds much better with it, and besides you don't get the "coffee shop wannabe rock star" effect through audio only, anyway.
The show NEVER jumped. Tenacious D as a band jumped though when they did their studio album. I mean, half of the humor is two guys "rockin' out" on acoustic guitars in a coffee-shop setting believing they are serious "thrashers". The studio album had a full band backing up every song (with guys like Dave Grohl on drums). Why did they feel they needed to do that? I saw the D live in Phoenix (just the two of them acoustically) and they were hilarious. They announced they were coming back 3 weeks later to play a larger venue with a complete band. I didn't even bother buying tickets to the second show.
The Tenacious D show was great because it didn't come close to running to long. If it had ran even a short season of 12 or 13 it may have gotten tires. LONG LIVE THE D!
Each day in Kindergarten their was a "word of the day." And one day the teacher told her students that the word of the day was tenacious. She asked the students to use tenacious in a sentence. So all the kids in the class raised their hands. But the teacher chose a little Filipino boy. He said, "My dad went out running today, but before he left he put on his tennis shoes" HAHAHA
True, this show didn't really have a chance to Jump-the-Shark since there are only a handful of episodes. That said, I really love the humor of the D. Jack Black is my new 'cult' hero. I loved him in the films "High Fidelity" and "Saving Silverman". I can't wait to get there new album. I live in San Antonio, TX. The D is scheduled to perform live in Austin on October 19. My friend Ron, another Tenacious D/Jack Black fan agrees with me - ROAD TRIP!!! The D ROCKS!!! LONG LIVE THE D.
This show kicks ass! It never jumped and, seeing as there are no more shows in the works, it probably never will. Look for their upcoming album around the 25th of September 01!! TENACIOUS D TIME!!
With the impending D album and other movies (Saving Silvermann) the D is going strong. Thank you Mr. Show for helping the world to see more of D. There is nothing better
When HBO wanted to own the rights to the songs and the D said... No... At least that's how it went on the D newsboards I think.
ps to the above...'D', in case you guys will marry me, my email address is haysx2@earthlink.net. my husband says it's ok because you are THE GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD! it is not possible for TENACIOUS D to jump the shark because YOU ROCK!!! when will you return to HBO? my life is somewhat more empty without you.
So far there have only been a few episodes - but this is my new favorite show. IT ROCKS!! dakota films has said there will be more episodes, hopefully soon. I LOVE THE 'D'. i would forsake (almost) all others for the 'D'. 'D', will you marry me?
