I'm a huge fan of this show - my wife and I watch it together. I had the pleasure of meeting Nick from season one in the airport 2 weeks ago, what a pleasant young man!
Anyway, you can't possibly a show has "jumped" for one or two small reasons. You must take into consideration a few things, such as "Am I entertained while watching it?" or "Is it doing something good for the arts and TV in general?".
There are only two things that bother me about the show - Mary Murphy is a bit annoying, and good LORD, PLEASE remove Toni Basil from the front of the camera! Between my wife and I, we have two four college degrees, and neither of us can figure-out what in the HELL she's talking about!
LOSE HER NOW, NIGEL!!!

I only started watching SYTYCD this year. Thanks God for DVR. A nice change of pace from AI. I like Nigel. He's not a meanie judge like Simon and he genuinely wants the see the dancers improve. Mia was at her best when she tried to critique the overly-confident Italian dude from the L.A. auditions and instead of saying "successful" she said "sexcessful". Had me in stitches. But I have to agree that Mary Murphy is too loud and too annoying. She makes Paula Abdul look normal. If I hear about the "Hot Tamale Train" and her WOOHOOs one more time...Ugh! And I hate to say this, but I find Cat Deely's accent the equivalent of fingers to a chalkboard, but at least she's not as annoying as Seacrest.
I love to watch the dancing, however Mary has got to go. Everyone in my family has stopped watching because of the WOOHOO Mary. Her screaming and phony laughing needs to stop or this show will not make it.
We were faithful viewers now we found better things to watch....until those anoying screams stop.

i miss my dvr so much. i'd fast-forward all the worthless crap i could if i still had it. like the contestants and the dancing. my complaints the same- the judges
1. cat deeley- get your nose straightened onto your face
2. nigel-thanks for trimming the mullet but its coming back
3."hairspray" director shankman guy-mommy look at me, i'm on TV!
4. mary murphy-rosie o'donnel's long lost twin-ugly and annoying
5. mia murphy- vomit. "i know what it's like to choreograph something personal. you move me. you are like the desert thirsting for water. i want to lick your face blah!blah!blah!
bring back neil from last year. that guy was shafted. he could dance.

Am I the only one who thinks the judges talk WAY too much? Seriously, sometimes it feels like there is more judges' comments than actual dancing.I personally don't care what they say that much. Plus, they always agree with each other! I don't know for sure how big the egos are on that show, but it seems like the judges think SYTYCD is THEIR show just as much as the dancers'... which it is NOT.
I've catched SYTYCD a few times, but I can never watch it for more than 10 minutes. That screaming, obnoxious, hysterical female, Mary Murphy, stops me dead in my tracks. During the whole dance routine, her screaming drowns out the music and God, what in the world is she laughing at?? The show wouldn't be half bad, but that mouth has gotta, gotta go, like in yesterday. I cannot tolerate her.
I think this show is disgusting and should be taken off the air.It is nothing but lewd act's and dirty dancing.i watched it twice and that was enough for me,I would rather watch commercial's
thank you
thank you
To "me" on June 12, 2008:
YOU need to grow up in your ability to argue. You DON'T type to someone "WHY don't YOU try doing those forms of dance!" because it's the same as "Show me you can do as well (or better)."
And this is NOT valid reasoning! All the poster need do is correctly assess/criticize the dance(s).

I really like this show and the only reason i like the judges is too see if how i felt about the dance was reflected by what the judges say.
I agree with the original critique of Mia though. Seriously, last week all of her critiques were the same. "I loved the choreography; boy, you were great, i love you; girl, you suck and need to improve." I can't take her seriously in what she says to the contestants. She only likes the male dancers. I think the only female dancer she actually liked was Heidi on season 2.
They should bring back judges like Debbie Allen, she was just fun to watch, but thats just what I think

Just discovered SYTYCD this season. My take:
Doesn't look like a JTS to me.
The auditions blew me away with amazing talent, almost across the board. Unlike "American Idol," which revels in bad auditions, SYTYCD treated us to many superb auditioners - and the truly bad (remember "Sex," anyone?) were few in number.
Now that we're into the weekly contests, I remain impressed, as a rule.
Yes, judge Mary's screaming and her often adolescent comments are a frustration, but Nigel and the other judges typically dispense quite eloquent, precise, meaningful critiques. (What a refreshing change from the AI judges - beloved personalities, true, yet six years of "dawg!", "discover your own journey," and "not to be rude, BUT" have become petrifyingly awful, now, haven't they?)
My only complaint is: who the heck has 3 hours a week to watch any show? Come on, it's summer weather outside. Thank god for DVR so I can fast forward through the gab-fests and prolonged bios of the contestents where I have less personal interest. You can feel the padddddddddd-ing that stretches each 2-hour competition and 1-hour result show.

Your critique of the judges was humorous and well said. Even so, it is a great show.
Too bad the judges are protecting weaker dancers, such as "Confort". Twice in as many weeks the voters have tried to put her out of her misery, but the judges keep propping her up.
The judges have already announced which two male dancers they expect to be in the final four. Not good. Let the judges comment, but let the pubic decide.

Replace singing with dancing, and you've got American Idol's spinoff, So You Think You Can Dance. NEXT!
One of the best (if not the best) reality shows on today. American Idol doesn't even hold a candle to it, and I wish they would just take that popularity contest known as AI off the air, period! Like lots of other folks, I really believe this show would be so much more pleasant without Mary Murphy. She is hands down the Queen of Annoyance. Some of the routines are LAME, like the first routine of the first top twenty show last night -- but you can't blame the dancers. That routine was just W-E-A-K, especially for a hip hop routine. For the person who made the comment way back about this show JTS when hip hop and crump were dance forms equal to ballroom and Swing: GROW UP. Why don't YOU try doing those forms of dance!
