For those that think Unhappily was a rip off and was left over material when MWC was over ... check ur data .... they were both on at the same time .... and cancelled MWC in 97 & Unhappily in 99 ..... one of the 2 executive producers of MWC was the guy that did Unhappily ... he had 2 ideas and made 'em BOTH WORK on 2 different networks ..... its no rip off unless SOMEONE ELSE did the show .......
Does anybody know where I can find a clip of Floppy explaining to Jack about where the socks go after the dryer?
This Show is proably one of the most unique and funniest shows on TV. I loved at the end how Mr. Floppy read fan mail, hilarious. I actually was so obsessed with this show in college, I went out and purchased a Mr. Floppy. I am very sad that it will not come out on DVD. Married with Children was cutting edge for its time, and the only real comparison besides the minor similarites between Al Bundy and Jack Malloy was that both shows were break out hits on networks in their infancy stages. I know that the CW would proably never air this show now in 2008 nor would FOX air Married with Children now were they new pilots. Both networks have come along way as well. The WB dissolved and made into a new network, and FOX from being unnoticed to being the number one broadcast network. Unhappily Ever After was a unique show, and yes the comparisons are there but remeber the same people were behind both shows. Look at 2008 and how people say American Dad is a Rip off of Family Guy, well the reason for that is because they are both the product of Seth green. My only hope since the show did lousy in syndication is that a complete series box set will make its way to DVD so I can own every episode. If ther is a petition out there let me know and I will happily sign it.
Is it really a rip-off if people who Previously WORKED On "Married...With Children" as Writers/Producers? Maybe they had a few ideas left over from when "MWC" got canceled, and just got re-written. I'd consider the show to Be "MWC Lite" Only The Brother is Stupid, the Sister has brains and there's a 3rd kid and a rabbit. In short, it's the same show, but on purpose.
Best episode was where Bud Bundy came on as a guest and put the move on Tiffany
his new Burger Chain Girl ...
another great one was the Sopranos parody where Nikki Knockers finally got her Corvette after stealing and reselling the old fashioned and functional toilets to those who loved them..
Floppy played the Consigliari with great
skill. (Loved the White suit.)
Unhappily was one level up and appealed
to those who has a better job than a shoe salesman..
A lot of boomers are taking meds for bi-polar, so the show needed a bunny to
fill the bill for Jack.
(Maybe having her so close on the show
for so long was what made him loose it.)
At least, Tiffany could look at the camera
and force it to raise it's gaze while she spoke. I liked the episode where she talked the brainy girls in her school OUT of Mensa aspirations.
She sure knew how to get the most out of the camera angle.
One year when I could have bet that she had some work done, was when she joined the volleyball team and looked
like her jugs had doubled overnight... Maybe she went on the pill when she dated the Bobcat.
How could she show more of her assets
in that show than she did in her Nikki show, I will never figure out.

As long as Unhappily stays in reruns forever, Nikki has done her job.
I hope she an Bill Maher will be very happy. She always said that she would catch some rich businessman.
I guess she came close.
Best episode was when they were selling illegal toilets to get her a Corvette

The coming of this show was hinted about in the Married With Children episode about a new show called "Pease In A Pod" that was depicted as ripping-off the Bundy's home life without crediting them; you may remember that "Mel Pease" looked exactly like the father in this show. I haven't seen anyone else mention this, even though they are all so quick to dismiss this show as a 'rip-off'.
In my opinion this show really came into it's own when the wife left and it became the story of two kids essentially raising themselves while the psycho father occupied himself with his fantasy world of talking stuffed animals. The episode where he couldn't get them to 'shut up' even after gagging them was hilarious! I still double over when I think of the scene where someone asks him why that one animal's head is torn off, and he says it was to make an example to the rest of them, and they are shown gagged, tied up, and trembling in fear!
Unlike Al Bundy, who was just an average joe who had given up on any hopes of happiness in this life, the father here was an average joe that had finally lost it and gone over the edge. It didn't play like a rip-off of Married With Children, it played like a grim sequel, a glimpse of what lies ahead for guys like Al Bundy.
Meanwhile the Tiffany/Ryan/school life part of the show taught life's true lessons with a cold-blooded and caustic edge. Remember the episode where Ryan loses a girl to another guy by waiting to have sex with her in order to make it "special", then afterwards claims he learned his lesson, yet he puts his cupcake down to "save it for later", and another guy walks up and starts eating it, illustrating that the little loser hadn't learned ANYTHING! The symbolism of another guy eating your 'cupcake' to represent what happens if you don't jump on your opportunities for romance was wickedly brilliant! I am so sorry I only began watching this show when it was already on it's way out, I wish there was some way I could watch it all devolve from the beginning!

Hello, I'm a german student and are making a report about this great show. I just love it!! Since last week I started to watch some episodes in english and they are even better than before^^ great stuff..
This is what I wrote so far:
2.Typical elements of American society in this episode
-Americans tend to be too politically correct
Mister Floppy's sarcastic statement about political correctness criticises that the American society cares too much
about the emotions of minorities. Of course it is important that no social group will be harmed in a racist way, but
there also is a wide range of cases where such statements are not meant to be offensiv or where they are a part
of humor (just like in "UEA"). In one episode Floppy even says that Hitler would have deserved to rule the world, because
of his cruel childhood. This should make clear how important a limit of political correctness is.
-American Dream
The American Dream seems to be an illusion for the Mulloys, because the members of the family can't even
dream about a better future or they just don't care about it. It seems as if their life won't get much better than a
upper low-class one. This is shown by the dialoque between Jack and Ryan: It is absolutely normal for to Mulloys
to give up, to be disappointed and useless. The only ray of hope is Tiffany, the beautiful and talented
daughter. At the end of the last season Jack finally gets enough money to send her to Harvard.
-the sick truth
Jack is the only character in "UEA" that really understands and talks about the gravity of his and his
families problems. But just like Al Bundy he is also unable to do something against it. His frustrations and
depressions (which are not realized as such) are pushed into the back of his mind where they cause grief and
bitterness. That makes Jack an example of the psychis of American citizens who have to work on and on and don't
get a chance to think about their doings. It's a great problem not just in the American but in the modern
societies in general that people just think about what they have to do next and not about what they should do to
be happy with their own life. American society isn't build to make people happy.
3.My thoughts about "Unhappily Ever After"
There are just a few things I dislike. For example that sometimes Mr.Floppy's statements just want to provoce
and doesn't have got any deeper sense. The fact that "UEA" was thought to continue the success of
"Married.. with children" also can be criticised.
What is actually really interresting about "UEA" is the usage of extremes. The representation of a normal
American family is so exaggerated that all the characters and their doings depend stereotypes. This is why
nobody should take this series seriously and mind some of the dumb jokes and the load of politically incorrect
statements. But beneath all probably negative aspects there is a intelligent, biting sense of humor.
Of course it is absolutely different from the british one, but this humor draws the picture of modern society and the
people of our times in a way, that everybody has to think "What the hell is going on?" before maybe realising that
it is just his own absurd life represented by Jack and Mr.Floppy that he is laughing about. This cynical way of showing
the Mulloys life is what I like the most.

This show was so incredibly stupid that it actually made Married With Children look intelligent by comparison.
First... the show was AWESOME.... pretty daughter / stupid son / forgotten son / pill poppin' grandma / college drop out mom & the skitzo car sellin' dad that talks to a stuffed bunny ? ..... which leads me to say .... NOTHIN' LIKE MARRIED W/ CHILDREN .... Bundy & Malloy are NOTHING alike ... this show ROCKS ...its no MWC but it was a breakthrough for the WB ... you forget...WB only had a handful of stations then ... it put them on the map..... Love this show ... GOOD THING I GOT 'EM ON VHS & DVD huh !! .... YES I HAVE MY SOURCES !!!!
I don't think it ever jumped. At first I thought, like many people here, that it was a ripoff of MWC. Then when I found out that they were created by the same person, I realized that it was an INTENTIONAL ripoff and a what-if situation, so there were glaring similarities, but there were differences as well. First off, the most GLARING difference is that the daughter (Tiffany) is INTELLIGENT and she is (GASP!) a virgin. Two things that Kelly clearly was NOT. Ryan was like Bud in that he was trying so hard to be cool and failing miserably. Of course, eventually Bud got cool and was able to score with women while Ryan...didn't.
This show never really jumped the shark, but it was disappointing when Dana Daurey left the cast. She was replaced by Wendy Benson, who played a different character. Benson is beautiful and sexy, but not nearly as sexy as Daurey. When it comes to sexy women on TV, Dana Daurey RULES!!!!!
This show was definitely something special. Either in a positive way or in a negative, but it was really different from other sitcoms. I know there are a lot of similarities between Unhappily ever after and Married with children, but I don¥t mind that since it¥s supposed to be that way (I mean they don¥t try to pretend it¥s not like that) and the show still had its own concept. Most episodes were really exaggerated, but still the show had its funny moments. It was making fun of everyone and everything, but that¥s one of the things that made it entertaining. It was so weird it was funny again. I didn¥t like Floppy too much, but it always cracked me up when the father talked to his stuffed animal in the public and strangers or his family stared at him. I wish we would have seen more of Ross, though. Everyone is so crazy about Nikki Cox, but I think besides her looks she wasn¥t much of an interesting character. Watching the the perfect little girl who never screws up was interesting for about one episode. Ryan was funny, but they overdid his stupidity a bit. I think it was funny how Ross was neglected by his father (I know, I¥m evil lol) and always wanted his father to pay attention to him. I enjoyed the episodes which were focused on Ross the most (unfortunately there weren¥t too many of them). On the whole it wasn¥t a really great show but it wasn¥t bad either and definitely a welcome change from most other soppy sitcoms.
I still dont understand why the co-creator of Married with Children would leave to produce this putrified piece of trash. I'm hoping they gave him a shit load of money, otherwise he's nuts. The actors cast in this stupid clone were unbearable. And that rabbit, or whatever the hell he is? Essentially, it's an unfunny Al Bundy coming home and talking to a puppet on the couch while his stupid son, daughter and wife all bug the s**t out of him and bleed him dry. Wasn't this show on for like 4 years? Who was watching it?
