I miss my cool-*** pal, Johnny Bluejeans. But unfortunately after they moved, it went downhill. Even though Johnny finally got to meet Dick Clark. Such a shame, because when it was funny it was hilarious.
Jumped when it moved to Vegas. Just wasn't the same.

I wish they would either rerun this or release it on DVD.
Season Two's dissolution of the Original Swimsuit Squad was end of this show for me. In Season One, all four babes were mega-hot in their sexy outfits and killer black leather boots. Until the Second Season when two of the original babes (Mira Tzur and Betsy Chang, who'd retreated behind-the-scenes as choreographer) were gone, to be shortly followed by the blonde (Kerry Quinn), leaving the last remaining brunette hottie (Jill Nicklaus) stuck with a trio of utterly UN-attractive and tackly-looking newbies in fugly costumes. As a parody, they'd gotten the Dancers concept right the first time, so how in the Hell did they mess it up so badly?
The game they played called French or Gay is to this day one of the funniest things I have seen on TV!
Moving to Vegas is what killed the show although too many lame musical acts like Reel Big Fish didn't help it.
Viva Variety never jumped the shark. Nothing was a better diversion than the Swimsuit Squad and even when the skits were bad, the overdone accents were funny enough to make up for it. Plus, they had the best musical guests. I mean, they had Cibo Matto and Soul Coughing on for heaven's sake! Can you name any other show that would have that? Comedy Central needs to release all their great cancelled shows on DVD, like this and UCB, Strangers with Candy, Dr. Katz, and then start showing reruns of the Tick again, cause The Man Show and Win Ben Stein's Money truly suck.
The first season of Viva was hi-larious! Hugo the Talking Yugo, anyone? Ben Stiller as the Fonz? Baby Tastes Like Soup? The Swimsuit Squad? Sweety Balls, the Cereal for the Active Man? Anyone? Alas, this level of excellence was not to continue past its first year. The second season was a mere shadow of the first, and by the revamp in Vegas, it was no longer sketch comedy in the guise of a variety show, it was just a variety show.
This was a great show from members of The State. Not to mention great musical guests like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Toots and the Maytals, Fishbone, and Royal Crown Revue among others. When it moved to Vegas it just lost it's camp value. Still, those Vegas episodes are better than all the juvenille crap Comedy Central crams down our throat today. DEATH TO SOUTH PARK, DEATH TO THE MAN SHOW, DEATH TO TV FUNHOUSE, and VIVA VARIETY!
This was one of those shows that was just hilarious and was probably the funniest thing on TV, but you knew was going to get cancelled. But hey, they could have at least have had the decency to every once in a while show some reruns of the show.
Vegas sapped the low-budget feel of Eastern Europe's favorite variety show finally come to America.
This show was great! It was such a dead-on parody of the old-school variety shows (i.e.,Sonny & Cher), but with really cool guests. FYI: Johnny Bluejeans (Michael Ian Black) is the guy who plays Phil Stubbs on "Ed."
Another great MTV show that was probably too smart for most of its viewers. The hostess (Kerri Kinney) was always excellent eye candy too!
It was a perfect parody of Sonny & Cher. FYI: The actor who played Johnny Bluejeans is the voice of the Pets.com sock puppet (the one who sued Conan O'Brien's Triumph the Insult Comic Dog puppet).
This show was great. I wish i was smart enough to tape all these when they first aired because we all knew it would get shit canned right away.
I'm definitely not surprised the show ended only episodes after they moved to Vegas. Although, there were two things that kept me watching: 1)It was still pretty funny. It just seemed different, that's all. 2)Kerry Kenny. Oohwee, she is so fine!
