This show had some good things going for it but it totally JTS during the episode when the younger son, he was 13, starts walking around the house nude and everyone, his parents and his siblings just humor him and assume he will out grow it. Very realistic! Had I done that at 13 not only would i be forced to put on pants I probably would have been taken to see a shrink! The soultion in the episode was Mr. Gold started waking around nude and hanging out with his nude son, gross!
Let me begin by saying that i love your site www.jumptheshark.com a lot
now.. back on topic hehe
I cant say that fully agree with what you typed up... care to elaberate?
I think the main couple is more like the real life than any others out there. I'm tired of the couple where the father is a jerk, and the mother is a supermom, like home improvement, everybody loves raymond, and almost every show on the air.
I like the personalities of the children, and for me, it was a show that deserves more the time on tv than grey's anatomy, or gossip girl or desperate housewives.
I remember this little gem of a television show. The epitome of Fox programming at its finest. Why is it when they have a possible hit on their hands they jerk around with their programming schedule and cancel it before it can sprout wings and fly, and yet this give garbage like this a second season, or The Simpson's a 108th season?

My friend told me this was funny, and that I should check it out. I want to know what he was smoking when he watched it, cause the 2 episodes I saw weren't even chuckle worthy. This show didn't jump the shark cause there was no peak to reach, it sucked from day one.
The laugh track on this show seemed more forced than on any other show.

Day one. Why didn't they try to break social ground on a show that was legitimately funny?
One of the happiest days of my life was when this show was canceled. It ruined the Sunday lineup for 2 years. I'm not a prude and I loved married with children but watching a guy brag about his wife's "great rack" and his wife's lesbian relationship when she is supposedly Catholic was icky. Rapoport made me itch and here he is, ruining My Name is Earl. Rapoport, you're a terrible actor - go to law school or something.
Michael Rapaport funny? Please. His constant facial expression is like he has bad digestion.
I guess my worst fear was confirmed and that's the the show was apparently cancelled according to some of yall.
What a great show, this was one sitcom that really did have me laughing out loud reliably.

This show was ground breaking in many ways, it was a jewish family and while they didn't have a gay kid of their own, they did the next best thing, which was the neighbor's kid. It dealt with so many real life, modern day family subjects like dating, sex, cheating in school, driving. This show was one of a kind. RIP war at home.
It jumped when they didn't have the courage to continuef having the white teenage daughter dating a black guy.

The gay teenage son thing was apparently not a problem, but a white girl dating a black kid was apparently too problematic, so they dropped it FAST.
Is it just me or were the parents on this show the worst parents ever. they abandon their children, they out their son, they make fun of their children, and all together neglect them. Day One
I think this show was always better than it was given credit for.
It is not surprising to me, though, that it was cancelled a year or 2 early. It simply was not P.C. enough for many tight asses out there.
The way this show exposed the drama of being a gay teen while still making it funny without ever being angst-ridden or unrealistic was amazing. There's a great scene when Kenny is living with the Gold family and the mom wants to redecorate the basement (where he stays) for him and he doesn't want her to because - he eventually tells her - "my parents are going to take me back... aren't they?..." WOW The young man who played Kenny delivered this moment in a way that broke your heart - sad, sweet, sincere, perfect. That a network show - A SIT-COM ON FOX - presented a realistic gay teen character in such a honest and raw moment was just groundbreaking. For that moment alone - and there are many others - like Kenny's first gay date - this show was revolutionary. I miss witnessing Kenny and Larry's friendship a lot. There ares not enough gay teen role models on TV (name 3) and this show presented the first one who could make us love him and make us laugh all in the same moment
All I can say is thanks the heavens above that this show is no longer on the air. It was, to me, just a 21st century version of Married With Children that was nothing like that classic show.
Truly a detestible show. Fox and everyone involved in the production of this monstrosity should be ashamed of themselves. It took the worst humor of a show like Married with Children and had none of its satire or charm.
This show is for anybody who got someone pregnant and then married them to do the right thing. Very realistic and hilarious at times if you can relate. It was funny when the nerd didn't know his friend was gay.
