The show jumped the shark when they left Aggrestic

WEEDS blows!!!!!!!!!!! I thought season 3 was bad. But now...I never really liked Nancy but the supporting cast saved it. Now Nancy & family have left. It was funny to see the underbelly of the clean upper crust snooty burbs. I don't want to watch a comedy about a slutty lazy single mom who traffics weed, cocaine, and illegals across the Mexican border. Not funny. Not cute. Not interesting. Not watching any more!

Well, if season 3 wasn't enough, now it's official. I was ready for mediocrity, but I was curious about where the writers were going to take it. Answer: they don't seem to know yet, either. Bleh.

season 4 premiere. last night. just awful. when a show has to become SO outlandish to a point of burning down an original setting and writing a completely different story, it jumps the shark.

You can dislike characters' actions but still root for them. Even sympathize/excuse them. However, everyone has a breaking point. Would you seriously continue watching a show where you hated the characters? Really? In order for a show like Weeds (and even Dexter--which I love) to work, in all their criminal glory, the leads have to have some quality that makes them redeemable. To think otherwise is a joke. Especially if no plausible reasoning behind their actions exists.

I feel that this show is one of the freshest and edgiest shows on T.V.

I don't get all the people complaining about "the kids are dealing drugs", "Nancy's no longer likeable", etc. Do these people realize they're watching a show on Showtime about a drug-dealing mom? Since when does TV always have to represent 'good values'? If these people want a show with a positive message, they needn't be watching Showtime. They need to keep the morality cancer at ABC Family where it belongs, and quit expecting everything to be sanitized for their safe consumption.

Also, what's wrong with some of the characters becoming unlikeable? Maybe that's the point - to portray a loss of values. Nancy sells drugs; it only makes sense that she would harden. The "sub-plots" add dimension to the characters. Do people really believe that their own kids are automatons that do 'kid things' and have no lives, oops, I mean "sub-plots", of their own?

The show has not jumped the shark yet. It is the steak to Desperate Housewives' vending machine frozen burger.

Adding Mary-Kate Olsen to the show was horrible. But one thing that annoyed me was all the product placement! I wonder how much money they got from Apple & Nintendo?

I agree with Former Fan. Season 3 just got way too ridiculous and there are never any real consequences for their actions. I could understand some things hapeening by chance or coincidence, but its like everyone in that entire community gets by on "dumb luck" on a regular basis.

I agree that you do have to suspend belief in order to fully enjoy Weeds. I loved the first two seasons (the finale scene where everyone is holding a gun on Nancy was hilarious), but S3 just got way too ridiculous. Andy was a worthless and seriously immature character and U-turn got on my nerves. I stopped watching maybe 4 episodes into S3.

Now, Dexter is the only reason I keep Showtime in my cable pkg.

Season 1 is brilliant, low key, bizarre comedy.

About half-way in Season 2 they ruined it with a never ending influx of soap operasville drama... like turds in the punch bowl it doesn't work at all in this show. The comedy disappears completely, and the formerly comedic characters aren't believable in their crisis after crisis, I think they should can it at this point.

The main shark-jumping moment? Mary-Kate Olsen.

This show is way over the shark now. It started off with some delicious possibilities to satirize the hypocrisies hidden behind the doors of suburban McMansions. It then quickly devolved into the writers playing a game of “how bad can we make things for the characters?”

This might be fine, but none of the problems the characters experience ever get resolved—they just seem to evaporate.

Silas gets a girl pregnant, then she's written off the show to have an abortion. Poof! Problem solved. Nancy is owned by U-Turn. Poof! He has a heart attack and this problem is solved too. Celia gets cancer then it’s gone. Shane gets kidnapped, then suddenly he's free. Andy is about to get sent to Iraq, then out of nowhere he gets discharged.

These quasi deus ex machina resolutions are just plain insulting. If the writers don't care enough why should we?

So long Weeds.

Some suspension of disbelief is required to enjoy Weeds. Whether or not episode 3x15 serves as a season or series finale, this show has not begun to "jump"...

Well put, ledog3. Season 3 was a weak exercise in theatre of the absurd, but that closer was outstanding, and chased all those sharks away. Interesting point that this may or may not have been the final show - a number of things were wrapped up, though nothing was fatally terminated.

BTW - how much must have Kevin Nealon enjoyed playing this part?
