Here's one of those shows which didn't jump during its original run but did so afterwards. TYO invariably poked fun at white males and their institutions (Margaret Thatcher notwithstanding). Fine for the early 1980s, but the UK was conspicuously multicultural, and while the Comic Strip team may have felt it 'racist' to spread some of the satire further afield, to simply ignore women and people from other cultures was just another kind of prejudice. Very 'PC' humour, and in this day and age, more than a little hypocritical. Moreover, in order to avoid potentially sticky areas, Ben Elton and co. concentrated on infantile 'snot and botty noises' humour. Liked it at the time, only like the surreal bits now. JTS posthumously.
I agree best show ever period, they did remake it, its called "Bottom".
best show ever period - dare I say make it again in the modern age? the old writers & old crew are still around and not doing much...am i alone on this? its worth a shot for such a gem....
never jumped. just wish there were more episodes. who can forget rick's pretend girlfriend or jester polarski's medieval torture hour "yeah, cut his head off, yeah" it was so off the wall that you never knew what was about to happen "half the house has been wrecked by a gigantic sandwich". i can't decide if i want to go cook some lentils of go to the basement and play murder in the dark.
Bloody brilliant! Vyvian, where DID you get that howitzer?
A great show considering it was absolute crude nonsense. As a huge lover of vulgarity, I can honestly say The Young Ones will probably always be in my top ten favorite sit-coms ever. The Bambi episode will always be my favorite of all time. When Neil and Rick are sitting on the train studying to be on University Challenge the dialog is still hysterical even though I've watched that seen over a hundred times. It's a shame there was only twelve episodes though. If you want more of that great humor catch the BBC series "Bottom" which starred Ade Edmondson and Rick Mayall(Vyvian and Rick)....Awesome show.
This is one of the best tv shows of all time. INSTANT CLASSIC. I went to my 20 year reunion and heard at least a dozen Young One's quotes. Awesome. May the
seed of your loin be fruitful in the belly of your woman!
i think i was around 11 or 12 years old when it was first aired.my parents thought it was filth so i had to very carefully watch it in my bedroom on a black and white portable.dad still blames them for turning me into the anti social creature i am now.even though to hear him talk now everyones a spaz so perhaps he did like it or even watch it just not in front of the kids???in my mind the best ever show!!!!
Never jumped, ya flares wearing hippies! TYO is exactly what us *YOUNG ADULTS* need.
Violence, Thatcher, Violence and uh, Violence.

The Young Ones could never jump the shark, because Vyvyan would have attempted to bite the shark only to have it explode in his mouth.
Revolutionary biscuits of Italy! This show never jumped!!!
Bambi was the best episode ever.
"Filthy Rich and Catflap" was actually a precurser to the show starring "Vivienne" and "Rick".
Best Rick line, "Alright, hands up, who likes me?" followed by the rest of the characters reaching for the floor.
