I also loved the character "Reggie" and think that the show went downhill when they added Nancy Travis to replace her. I Tivo all of the episodes so that I can weed out all of the ones with "Chris". I would love to see a revisit of the show and maybe do maybe a mini-series or even just a special to see where the characters are now.
I miss Reggie and Bob . I don't think they ever really Jumped the shark but came awfully close when Reggie left . good writing saved it w/ Chris .
I understand why the bosses at 'Becker' had to get rid of the Reggie character...but what was the deal with Bob? He was an understated role player that added as much to the sarcasm as Becker did...so it began the trip up the ramp when Reggie departed...and jumped when Bob was gone...and I agree with an earlier post that the character of Anita (the hooker) should have been seen more often...she and Becker always were fun to watch!
I cannot understand the criticism of Nancy Travis. I think she did a good job with weak material. I luv 'er.
Overall I enjoyed the show but I would have to say I have just seen an episode with a classic shark jump. The thanksgiving dinner with Chris's sister who had just come out of prison having attempted to stab her partner.
Desperate unfunny stuff. Shame really.
Ted Danson is a great comic actor and all the supporting cast played their parts well.

Becker was an awesome show.Well, at least before Reggie and Bob left.Every character had their own unique personality and there was never a dull moment in the show.Great stuff.
Reggie made the diner, and Bob finished out the decor. Without the two of them, the show really tanked. [sigh]
House ripped off this show, with Doctor
House being a clone of Becker. The only thing that's original is the limp.

i'm so glad the 1st season is out on DVD!!! great show. I love becker's sarcasm, it's a lot like mine when is use it. Becker is a hilarious show and it lasted a long enough time. I agree that the chris character was annoying though, and the show could have made it a few years longer if she hadn't been added. nothing against nancy travis, i just would have liked to see what might have happened if reggie was still around.
jfc hit it right on the nose. This was not a great show but it was entertaining and fun to watch. 99% of the sitcoms today are absolute crap and make Becker seem like a masterpiece.
Not a great show but watchable. I like Becker and his ranting. And Bob, what a great character. Whenever I watch Becker I am struck by how very few sitcoms are this good now. In the 90s there was a whole bunch of shows like Becker, 3rd Rock, NewsRadio, Just Shoot me, Caroline in the City, John Larroquet, Wings, Coach, Roseanne, etc. None of them were great, none were must see TV for me, but they seem like masterpeices compared to the utter crapola sitcoms of 2008.
Never great, never sh*tty. The sitcom equivalent of a Ring Ding...good to have when nothing else is available, but not so great if you live next to a bakery.
I didn't mind so much when Nancy Travis came in. What killed it for me was when Jorge Garcia came in. He's a funny guy, but his character was no more than a desperate attempt to add cheap comedy to a series that was basically finished.
With Becker running every night on WGN, I've watched it for years. Neither leading lady {Nancy Travis & Terry Farrel} did anything for the show. Who's going to believe, for instance, that someone that looks like Terry Farrel is going to be stuck working at a diner in the Bronx? When they replaced her with Nancy, she had the same chemistry with Becker that Terry did -- none at all. Becker's best girlfriend was Elizabeth, played impeccably by Frances Fisher. She's a doctor, she's witty, outspoken, older, intelligent, great looking, and they fit so well together. Compared to Elizabeth, Chris is Amateur Hour. The show truly JTS when Becker and Chris hooked up.
Also, what happened to all the great guest casts of the first seasons? The show started with a charming young man with HIV. There was a professional hooker who visited quite a bit, an overworked mother -- suddenly, there were no recurring characters. That hurt the show, too.

Becker was a character depicted as intrinsically grumpy, we were told in previews over and over, but when the show started, he had to be given a reason for grumpiness every week; he couldn't go out and growl at the world without a situation evoking his ire and rudeness. The real skill in writing would have been to let the episode play out around him: he could be very witty. I tried to stick it out but the other players quickly lost their shine.
