Too much emphasis on Berg and the girlfriend. The pizza joint was written out which was the biggest mistake. Bringing in Johnny wasn't the brightest idea either. The show was centered on the three friends and they put Rucola or whatever his name is center stage. Too many geek producers in TV these days.
I agree, seasons 1 and 2 were awesome, but seasons 3 and 4 were just mediocre. There were too many changes, and new recurring and regular characters that had nothing good to add to this show. Some episodes had basically Sharon doing nothing, and Berg being a jerk!

Oh, I liked the characters of Johnny and Ashley but as recurring.

Like in seasons 1 and 2, I wanted the show to focus on Berg, Sharon and Pete's friendship. It was about the relationship of these 3 what made the show great and a hit in the beginning.
I was a fan from day 1, watching it on wednesdays on ABC. I stopped watching in season 4, couldn't stand the awful changes.
Seasons 1 & 2 were awesome (S1>S2). Seasons 3 and 4 were the the ones that I thought were not quite as good.

For one Berg turned into an asshole, he's supposed to be the Van Wilder type of guy. Also breaking up with Ashley didn't seem right with me. And I don't know why but Sharon marrying Johnny doesn't seem to fit with the show (no offense to Traylor Howard and Nathan Fillion because they are both awesome). It's like the characters grew up too quickly. Oh and I agree with another guy that it also sucked when Berg turned into a loser.
I gotta be honest -- I only watched this show for Nathan Fillion. He's a favorite of mine and so I have always tried to watch anything he's in. I really didn't care much about any of the other characters, and the show itself was only so-so. The writing was just ok, and a lot of the eps were just outright boring.
Something happened in season 4, where the plot just stood still for too long.

For once, there were too many episodes in which nothing happened (like Drip, and The Silent One). They were very clever and funny episodes, but the engaging overall story was absent. It was fun watching Ber trying to sleep, but the audience who tuned in to see what would happen next in his romance with Irene, were left to wonder another week. This started to happen so often, that I guess most people got frustrated, or just lost interest.

Added to that, things were taking too long to happen. Berg and Irene's relationship took the whole season. Ashley's and Pete's was hinted very early on, but nothing actually happened until the last episode; that relationship lost it's window.

Another thing I noticed is that a lot of "big deals" were ultimately inconsequential. First, Pete runs to France because of his feelings for sharon, but then get's over it farely quicly. His relationship with Marty has a very intense buildup in season 3, but once they're together, this character (and relationship) quickly fade into the background. The same happens with Berg's mom.

And since probably no one will ever read this post, I'll go ahead and complain a bit more.

Berg turning into a wimp bothered me a lot. His falling in love with Irene was too much for me. But the moment I think this show jumped the shark was when Irene got over Pete.
Losing the pizza place, and changing the theme music had to be the 2 major shark-jumper moments for this awesome show.
i love this show so much that i have all the shows on my HD because i love to watch them time after time
it is my favorite show ever because i think my concept of friendship is very similar to what they perform on the screen
i love sharon so much and berg and pete are so funny
i used to love bill too but i cant still understand why they took off the pizza place.. it was amazing
and omalis or whatever its spelled
Loved the show it was great!

It made me laugh especially how Pete and Ashley kept going back and forth. I thought the ending was disapointing but I guess that it was the best the writers could do on such short notice.

Also those of you who have asked where you can buy the dvds. They haven't been released officaly but you can buy them from either ebay (I bought a set on ebay they're pretty good quality) or if you don't like ebay then you can find them here: http://www.todvdornottodvd.com/movie/comedy/Two_Guys_And_Girl.html
I disagree. So the show got a few extra characters? Better that than continuing to centre it around three main characters; you need additional characters to allow for Berg, Pete and Sharon to develop. Rather than the show going into decline, it merely showed the development in maturity of the three characters. I personally thought it was nice the way Berg grew from flaky waster to someone with some kind of responsibility, and how Sharon finally committed. As somebody said, them losing the pizza place wasn't representative of the show's decline, but a mark of how they were finally growing up. And characters like Johnny and Irene were far more likeable than the irritating Melissa.
This is one of the best sitcoms ever. I watched it when it originally aired and now I'm back into it -via youtube as it isn't on TV or on DVD. I love that they brought in an outside love interest for Sharon. It would have been a bit melodramatic if her love was Pete or Berg. And, as aimless as Berg was, he was also smart with ease, so, Dr. is not so hard to buy. Although, whoever pentioned prereqs has a point. Ashley and Pete's zingers were great. Most of all I loved Berg and Irene...both so goofy...do perfect for each other. The show started out good and just got better. A talanted and hilarious cast.
