Great tv show wow! I can't say any show never jts. I loved this show til the end. I was really depressed when Martin and MWC got cancelled in 97'. If this show did jts then I will say it was when Steve left and when they quit showing Al at work. Other jts moments were the No'Maam being used too much and when Al's boss Gary appeared. I thought the owner of the shoe store wasn't supposed to be seen. Anyway it was a funny show. No show got away with stuff like MWC did.
i didn't like seven either, but I can see where the writers were going with that one: The idea was that Peg would be a good mother to Seven, unlike how she was with Bud and Kelly. They were hoping for more comical situations with Peg spoiling Seven in front of Bud and Kelly's faces. The viewers, however, never really caught on to that.

Never really jumped, although Ted McGinley, of course, made it come close. It was better with Steve as Marcy's husband. Not only was Steve a more realistic match for Marcy, but it was fun to watch him try to balance pleasing Marcy and pleasing Al.

One thing I don't understand was Marcy's political affiliaton: on several episodes, she claimed to be Republican, but she seemed to be a social liberal.

It was sad how Fox treated this show at the end. It had been their first real hit, and pleased viewers for a decade. then they shipped it off to Saturday nights (a death time slot) and sure enough it killed the show. they cancelled it without even bothering to tell the cast. Ed O'Neill found out from people staying at the hotel he was at, Christina Applegate found out from some friends.
This is by far one of the best shows ever made. I use to watch as a kid and I still love to watch it when its on. I always thought it was funny, but I never did figure out the Seven thing. Glad they did away with him.
This show jumped the shark when every episode became the same formulaic drivel week after week. A typical episode consisted of Peggy stating something along the lines of, "Oh, Al. Your socks smell." To which Al would reply, "Well, Peg, at least I didn't burn the Corn Flakes." At which point, Bud would pipe up, "It's all Kelly's fault. If she had half a brain, she'd be dangerous." This would lead to Kelly zinging back, "Gee, Bud. At least I don't have pimples." And so it went ad nauseum, back and forth, for over 200 excruciating episodes. If you've seen one episode, you've seen 'em all.
i think this show never jumped it was funny.
sure seven sucked.
but the show was still funny and i thought it was better when jefferson showed up he was way funnyer than steve.
but either one this show was one of the funniest shows ever.
I think Married...With Children jumped the shark when Steve left. I did not think the show was as good after he left. Many of my favorite episodes are from season 1-4. Yeah Seven was bad too.I never understood why they decided to bring in a new kid?
Also I always thought it was funny how The family would make fun of Al because he was a shoe salesman and did not make any money.Well if Al was not making any money then how was he able to aford that house that they was living in? And it looked like a pretty nice house too.
The Seven idea was a bad call by the writers. The show holds up pretty well until the last two seasons, when the jokes got tired. There were still some good spots (Kelly & Jefferson doing the coffee commercial was fun) but overall it would have been one of the all time best shows had they maybe closed up shop a year earlier.
I liked this show... I know it lost something in the later years, but I'm not really sure what to pinpoint it on. It was probably Seven or too much Marcy or something like that.

I think all the Seven episodes must be locked away somewhere, or at least kept off syndication, cause I haven't seen one for a very long time.
katey sagal is one of my favorite actresses. She's just so real and that's what i love about her. I recommend "8 simple rules" to any one who likes katey.
I voted Day 1. I really dislike this show and always have, even when it was first on.

This show was a waste of talent. I liked Ed O'Neill, Katey Segal and Christina Applegate (the son was cool too, but that actor has fallen into obscurity)

To me, the show was so depressing. Al had a horrible job, his wife stayed at home and did nothing but eat and drink through the husband money that she loathed, with two kids who had little or no respect for their parents, to the absolutely, absolutely annoying, unfunny hag of a woman called Marcy who lived across the street (another actress that has done nothing since then.)

This show was all toilet humor and little funny. Basic Jew shlock humor.
katey sagal is a terrific actress. love her more in 8 simple rules, i never really had the chance 2 c 2 many married with children episodes. Katey sagal is a beautiful lady. 8 simple rules was her best, 2 me
You didn't watch the show much did you Carmen. Ted McGinley first appeared in Season 5 - the episode where he married Marcy in the Bundy's back yard (Captain Hank did the honors).

The "pirate ship" episode was a few seasons later.
MWC jumped the shark with the pirate ship episode. No doubt.
I know some of you will point out that the Pirate ship episode was also the introduction of Ted McGinley into the cast. That is strictly coincidental. If they had brought in Duston Hoffman or Clint Eastwood or George Clooney or Superman it wouldn't have mattered.

That was the episode that started the slide. McGinley gets a bad rap for this one.
Age (the show and the characters) killed this show. I dare anyone to watch the episode from season one where Al shoots Steve and Marcy's watchdog, and tell me it isn't one of the funniest episodes in sitcom history. Great writing, great cast. Afer a few seasons, Bud went frombeing a likeable "brat", to that Grandmaster B thing to the loser who couldn't get laid. Kelly turned impossibly stupid, and Al was always yelling or belly-aching about his marriage (then get divorced....duh). Jefferson wasn't the issue. It was (in no particular order): Seven, No Maam, storylines involving guest-star athletes, Tim Conway (love the guy, but wrong for this show), and the implausable things that happened to Kelly (weathergirl, model, star of a children's show, etc.). The final season was unwatchable.
I agree with the person below who said a "reunion movie" would be great! The plot could be some evil supervillain trying to kill Al... and he turns out to be a warped, hate-filled Seven...

If the producers use that idea, I want a commission!
