When Mary Birdsong joined the cast i started to think that the show JTS but i came around and accepted her in the Reno fold. One of my favorite episodes is when she invited Clementine to her Christian club meetings and was horrified when she was later baptized while naked. This season ender was a sad one for me since i believe Niecy Nash was the one killed off (She'll have a new show on FOX in the fall) But i'll still tune in since this is one of the best shows on cable.
The first episodes I initially watched gave me the impression that it was all just "fart joke" NASCAR fan stuff. But I gave it a chance and after catching more and more episodes I began to find the humor is actually very subtle and downright intelligent. During the Trudy in the Cake episode, Dangle is yelling at the camera,"Lube definitely washes off..!" Now that's really funny. Also the interplay going on between Dangle and his ex's husband in the episode where his ex-wife gives him his mother-in-laws ashes was very smartly done.
well they certainly didn't jump the shark when they literally tried to jump the shark (various season 4 intros).
now that's meta.
I absolutely love this show!! This a great example of improv at it's finest. As demonstrated by the talent they get for guest stars. People from Groundlings, Upright Citizens Brigade, and Second City. I do think it's always going to be one of those shows you either love or hate, improv being a very subjective thing. I will say I don't find it at all offensive. It's comedy if it weren't exagerated it wouldn't be funny.
I still don't think it's jumped yet.
I is a lootenint and I finds this show offensive too! This show is 10-7, right Sargento Shredded Mozzarella Willixon?
OK, anyone who's followed this show from Season 1 has to agree the spontaneous spirit that once made it great and presentable doesn't exist for whatever reason.
It seems that what I saw from 1st to 3rd season on was a gradual disregard of plot in favor of gags. Reno 911 ONCE was an example of how to walk the line of character interaction, plot and impromptu.
I am a fan of the first 2 seasons and most of the 3rd, but ever since that time it's really frustrating. I never thought the show would devolve into what it is now.
Since Season5 is already taped, hope the cast/crew watch some of their own shows or take in criticism so they can be the great show again they once were
They are trying to jump the shark in season 5 but have been unsuccessful in the first two episodes.

That right there is utter brilliance!!! To even acknowledge the concept of "Jumping The Shark" within the show is proof it hasn't done it yet. I thought they may have jumped when they added Mary Birdsong, but she has actually grown on me. I still view her as an outsider but I don't mind her being around.

Season 4's Paul Ruben's soft-talker character was another dose of brilliance and I hope we see him solving crimes again in season 5.
Season 1 and to a lesser degree season 2 demonstrated the right mix of plot and improv. By season 3 it seems that formula has been used up or thrown out the window. From then on, the cast seemed too confident in themselves and the gags start getting old. All the stream-of-conciousness babble and 'wouldn't it be funny if' put a cohesive plot on the backburner.

Season 4 was terrible, and confirmed that the new "direction" of the show wasn't just a slip-up as I hoped. Things are strung together in such abstract ways I ought to pop a few Ritalin maybe to get into it. The throw-away episodes are a few for Season 3, but Season 4 makes you wanna throw away the whole season!

Judging by Season 5 Ep.1, I'm not going to bother following them this year. Maybe it might be improved from Season 4, but that's not saying much. The show doesn't need all these guest stars and Tom Lennon (Dangle)'s new uppity personality really is over-the-top
Yeah, I have a tough time believing the post from "Sargent" Randy Willixon. Nobody is so stupid that they can't spell their own title.
The first line of the first episode of Season Five:
"It's finally happening! We're jumping the shark!"

Proof that it hasn't jumped yet!
I'm trying to decide who my favorite character is--can't do it! Each one is funny in different ways.I also liked the movie. My favorite repeating theme in the series is Dangle getting his bike stolen.
I don’t know if anyone has noticed but outside of Reno 911 and how they have her character made up, Mary Birdsong is pretty hot, just look at some of her other pictures that are out there.
lol at the police sergeant
Deputy Trudy Wiegel is naked, her massive pregnant boobs bouncing. She's sticking out of a cake that she became lodged in. She is in labor but her cake won't fit in the ambulance so they roll her, cake and all, 18 blocks to a nearby hospital. She's escorted by guys in kilts an ambulance some fire fighters and as they pass some shocked and gawking nuns Deputy Travis Junior is shouting "Nothing to see here."

No shark in sight
Witty? It typical for the 2000's...just raunch...all sex stuff...people acting gay (because gay = funny)
