The show jumped with the exit of Suzanne Somers. I really liked the Chrissy character. It never felt like the same show after she left. I did like Priscilla Barnes as Teri but watching her episodes without the Ropers seemed like a spin off series.
This show was pitiful. The premise was lame & the scripts were horrible. Poor John Ritter made do as best he could but sheesh! Being a writer on that show must have been the easiest job in the world--sexual innuendo, dumb blond jokes and weak slapstick. Yuck! And everyone involved should be indicted for wasting the talents of the brilliant Don Knotts!!
This show jumped in the final season when they began repeating plots. However, my favorite episode is "She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not" in the final season because Larry wore short shorts. That man had a HOT pair of legs!
THE SHOW REALLY JUMPED WHEN JACK LIED ABOUT BEING GAY. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE FUN IF HE WERE. BETTER YET IF THEY ALL WERE. STILL I DID HAVE A THING FOR CRISSY. VERY HOT AND A LOT SEXIER IN THE FIRST SEASON WHEN JANET AWAYS WORRIED ABOUT HER HOOKING UP WITH JACK.
The show was mediocre at best. The actors did what they could with such terrible scripts. John Ritter was certainly game. They seemed to loop endlessly around the same basic plotlines. The departure of Suzanne Somers and the Ropers put a big dent into what joy and humor there was in the show. Don knotts, probably the funniest guy in the world, was horribly out of his element. Priscilla Barnes did manage to bring a lot of class to the show by NOT being another dumb blonde; however, the whole show show collapsed under its own weight after so many years when Jack finally decided to get married and the whole "I'm gay" thing was conveniently swept under the rug. I won't even bother with "Three's a Crowd".
Recently I got all seasons of the show on DVD. Watching them back to back, there is certainly an emptiness from the loss of Suzanne Somers.
Suzanne's leaving the show really did tarnish it, although it continued to be very enjoyable. But there was never any closure to the three characters who were so close. To write one of them off as if they'd never existed was terrible and left a bad taste with the audience.
It's hard watching the opening sequence, where Suzanne was kept on the entire season even as she appeared in 1 minute tag scenes at the end of only some of the season 5 shows. To do that really felt as if they were trying to ensure she'd be humiliated for all time in reruns. On the flip side, to ask for that much money and miss work jeopardized everyone else's jobs. That action was greedy and wrong, particularly after being chosen for the opportunity of a lifetime to be on that show. All of the actors were very well-compensated by anyone's standards.
Jenilee Harrison I liked very much and thought she was funny and cute, and memorable for sure, but it was true that the sexual innuedo fell flat because of who her character was supposed to be. Priscilla Barnes coming on gave the show an evolution. That likely would not have happened without the cast changes. Priscilla did a great job and took the show in a new direction.
Someone mentioned if there was a shark jump, it was when the Ropers left, and I agree: Mrs. Roper's one-liners are priceless to this day.
Finally, Joyce DeWitt is not often given the credit she is due. She seems like a very sincere and thoughtful person based on what I have seen and read about her. I greatly admire how Joyce turned her back on Hollywood because she didn't like how they treated people. I think Joyce has a lot of inner strength and character. (If she does not want to talk to Suzanne ever again, it is her business and sometimes that's the way things have to be.) "Three's Company" benefitted immensely from Joyce being a part of it.

Never jumped.
Underneath the giggle and the titillation, its mix of slapstick, absurdity and farce, all compressed into 25 minutes, has not been matched since. Perfect example of unappreciated depth.

At the time Three's Company originally aired, it definitely jumped the shark with the departure of Chrissy.
This is not only because the show suffered creatively (it did), but because the surrounding publicity was EVERYWHERE and it was all very negative and detrimental to the show.
Ditzy, lovable Chrissy Snow was revealed to be money-hungry wanna-be sexpot Suzanne Somers, who alienated everyone on the show and still insisted SHE was the victim.
Klutzy yet sensitive Jack Tripper turned out to be John Ritter, who was royally pissed that Suzanne Somers was threatening his gravy train and therefore turned a cold shoulder to his former friend as he gave interviews to the press blasting her.
Sensible, kindly Janet Wood we discovered to be bitter and jealous Joyce DeWitt, who also gave Suzanne Somers the silent treatment on-set.
Finding out that these "best friends" all absolutely hated each other in real life left a bad taste in the mouths of all America. Three's Company was never the same after Suzanne Somer's defection spelled out the truth for us - The lovable trio was in fact just another bunch of actors.

A good show but definitely Jumped.
Some folks might say it was with Mr Furley but he was actually pretty darn funny.
It was with Chrissy. She was just fine the way she was and the actress should have stayed on board no matter what.
Also, I liked the girls more in the first season when they were just a little bit sassy but still cool. As time went on Chrissy got way too blonde & ditzy and Janet became hyper, bitter, obnoxious and whiney.
Cindy and Terry were OK replacements but the show had changed too much and never bounced back.

To Lola,
This is a website that was created for television fans who wish to chime in about when a show did or did not jump the shark. To that end, it is usually desirable that people who vote also explain a bit as to why he/she thinks it did JTS. Since this website has more or less become a chat site lately, it stands to reason that certain opinions will draw some debate from others. I agree that some people may take this stuff too seriously, but I see nothing wrong with going a bit in-depth to explain our opinions and to add a bit of fun to the conversation. I don't think most people actually take this as seriously as you seem to think, but there are those few who certainly do.
Peace.

Geez you people are taking this show way to seriously. It was a comedy a brainless fluffy comedy for a half hour you just laughed at the silliness of it all. It was a good show and john ritter was so funny he carried the show when chrissy left yes it got less funny towards the end but still three's company will always be a classic sitcom.
Sadly, after the first season or so, this show turned in an abysmal excuse for comedy. Same thing, over and over, Jack does a prat fall, Chrissie snorts.
This has been running on Deja View for years. I can't understand why they can't find anything else. I can't even tune in to it. I don't think it aged well at all.
Another cringe-worthy mess.
